A Boston woman died after being attacked by a shark while paddling with a family member, possibly her husband, in the Bahamas. The tragedy occurred on Monday, December 4, and police confirmed the news in a press conference broadcast by Portal. The woman and man were paddling at a resort a few meters from the shore when she was bitten by the animal. Bahamas police spokeswoman Sergeant Desiree Ferguson said a lifeguard immediately went out in a boat to try to rescue the couple.

The attack

“The victim received cardiopulmonary resuscitation. However, he sustained serious injuries to the right side of his body, including the hip region and also to his right upper extremity,” Ferguson said. The woman, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead after a few minutes. The attack came just a day after a 26-year-old woman died after being bitten by a shark while swimming with her young daughter in Mexico. Shark attacks are rare in the Bahamas, but several have been reported in recent months.
