Shark Tank star and celebrity investor Daymond John is seeking a restraining order against three former contestants he did business with over the course of the show.
John is hoping to stop former NFL defenseman Al “Bubba” Baker, his daughter Brittani and his wife Sabrina from speaking publicly about their business arrangement after the family took to social media to condemn John for what they have since known as “Nightmare” experience invested in her Bubba Q’s Boneless Baby Back Ribs business, the Los Angeles Times reported.
According to the newspaper, a New Jersey federal judge dismissed the case this week without prejudice to jurisdictional issues.
John has since filed an amended complaint, alleging the Bakers conducted a “willful and malicious smear campaign” against him.
The Bakers have accused John and his associates in a recent LA Times investigation of attempting to take control of their business and barring Al Baker from important business meetings and financial information, in what John later described as “flawed interviewing and false narrative.”

The family claimed that the offer they received on air had been altered to their disadvantage off the air.
In Season 5 of the ABC reality show, they accept an offer from John to invest $300,000 for 30% of the company.
Off-air, they said he lowered the number to $100,000 to get a bigger 35% stake.

A spokesman for John told the outlet it was “regrettable that it has come to this” in terms of the legal action.
“This injunction follows flagrant actions by the Bakers to undermine a business partnership and the legal parameters they agreed on four years ago,” spokesman Zach Rosenfield said in a statement. “Their belief that they can undo bad business decisions through defamatory social media posts and articles will no longer be tolerated.”
Rastelli Foods Group, a meat processing company that makes the Bakers product, is also seeking an injunction over allegedly “false” and “defamatory statements” made by the family about the company, the Times reported.

The Bakers, meanwhile, say they have the right to “tell the truth” about working with John and that it’s “in the public’s best interest.”
Many on social media have slammed John over the allegations and it’s not the first time he’s been in trouble online. In 2021, John praised controversial religious leader Louis Farrakhan’s remarks at DMX’s funeral. Farrakhan was accused of making “dozens of anti-Semitic statements”.
