Sharks cause panic on the Catalan coast

A frightening scene has been observed on Portbou beach in Spanish Catalonia, not far from the French border. Two shark fins were spotted near swimmers causing them to panic.

They were swimming calmly in the Mediterranean Sea off Spain’s Catalan coast when two guests in the water caused panic. It’s Sunday, July 16, 1 p.m. when two shark fins are sighted by swimmers. Very quickly, everyone present in the water recognizes the danger and seeks protection for fear of an attack.

Some are piled high on a small floating platform, while others swim towards the beach as fast as they can, according to Spanish newspaper El Nacio. More fear than harm for the vacationers, the two sharks quickly reached the open sea. For the mayor of Portbou, the presence of sharks does not pose a threat to swimmers, who are part of the local fauna.

France3 states that every year, between mid-spring and the end of summer, juvenile fish less than a meter long are regularly observed in the Golfe du Lion, which is a real nursery for the species.
