It was September 29, 2001, when the actress was struck by a brain hemorrhage: she had a 1% chance of survival and was forced into a long and intensive hospital stay. After an operation (“extremely risky”) to reconstruct a broken vertebral artery, she woke up without realizing what had happened: “I woke up to find out what had happened, and then I had to learn to walk again, to listen, to write, to speak, to remember and do it again. I thought I would die for a long time even if I returned home,” she said.
