A ship briefly ran aground in Egypt’s Suez Canal on Monday. With the help of three tugboats, it was freed again.
The freighter M/V Glory ran aground in the Suez Canal on Monday when the vessel joined a southbound convoy.
Ship traffic undisturbed by the Suez Canal
The ship was freed a little later with the help of three tugs, maritime services provider Leth Agencies announced on Monday. Maritime traffic on the canal was not affected, the head of the canal authority, Osama Rabie, told Al Arabiya TV station. The ship flies the flag of the Marshall Islands.
Suez Canal closed for days in 2021
In 2021, one of the largest container ships in the world, the Ever Given, ran aground in the Suez Canal. The 400 meter long freighter blocked the important waterway between Asia and Europe for six days.
