James began his career in 2004 in one of the most iconic romance films of all time – The Notebook (2004) – which caught the attention of Julia Roberts and led to his being cast as heartthrob host Corny Collins in Hairspray (2007).
He has a number of successful films to his credit, including Lee Daniel’s The Butler, Superman Returns and the X-Men film series.
But one blockbuster the hunky actor left behind was hit male-stripping comedy Magic Mike.
During an appearance on James Corden’s The Late Late Show in 2021, James admitted he now regrets turning down the role he was offered in the Steven Soderbergh film.
“There were a few things I’ve said no to in the past that I’m glad I said no to, and a few things that I might do again if I could do it again,” the actor told Corden Tuesday night.
The Hollywood actor explained that he gave up the role for “lack of courage”.
“I was afraid that I would be cut out of the movie and all my lines would be cut out and I’d just be an extra walking around in a thong,” he joked.
He added, “I have friends and family who still think it was a wise idea for me not to do it because they don’t want to see me like that.”

Magic Mike was released in 2012 and starred Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello and Matthew McConaughey.
The comedy centers on Tatum’s character, Mike, who makes a living as a stripper at the Xquisite Strip Club in Tampa, Florida, which was owned by former stripper Dallas, played by McConaughey.
The film cemented Tatum as the leading man and also helped cement the theatrical careers of Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer.
