Shock in London: Driver argues with a police officer, resets and runs over him

“I have been a police officer for 18 years and never expected to be deliberately thrown off my bike in an act of such violence and aggression,” said Inspector Tony McGovern of what happened to him in London on July 1. The man was on patrol at the junction of Upton Road and Woolmer Road when he spotted a suspicious car. At the wheel was 24-year-old Joseph Ward who, after being flanked by the officer’s motorcycle, first overtook him and then ran over him while reversing, injuring his legs, back and shoulders. After a complex manhunt, Ward was arrested in Letchworth, Hertfordshire and convicted of a total of 14 offenses, including cheating a motorist to whom he posed as a police officer. The 24-year-old was sentenced to four years in prison.
