A pig-like, ponytailed bogan was allegedly caught on camera making off with a package to be placed under someone’s Christmas tree.

The man struck on December 1 in the Victorian country town of Flora Hill – southeast of Bendigo in north Victoria.

Investigators were told the package was left on the porch of the property sometime that day, with security cameras recording the theft around 4:50 p.m.

The package had contained a Country Road handbag intended as a Christmas present.

The perpetrator is perceived as Caucasian, 175 centimeters tall, powerfully built and with a striking haircut and beard.

Detectives shouldn’t have too much trouble finding the man, as people took to social media within minutes of the video posting to help.

“Can you send me a message here? I can give you his name and address,” a woman told police.

Home parcel theft has plagued Australians in 2022.

More than 3.6 million packages were lost or stolen in a 12-month period, with nearly a third of residents having a package stolen or lost.

This has cost Australian consumers a total of AU$224.3 million in missing goods.

The findings are part of the world’s first global parcel theft survey, which found that from May 2021 to April 2022, nearly one in 10 people had at least one parcel lost or stolen.

This amounts to a staggering 1.009 billion packages worldwide at a total cost of A$57.04 billion.

Globally, there was an all-time high of stolen or lost parcels with an estimated increase of 155 million compared to the previous 12 months, despite initiatives to deal with the post-Covid surge. That is an increase of more than two percent.

Anyone with information about the theft is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppers.com.au
