Major League Baseball's biggest mystery has finally been solved: Shohei Ohtani has finally told us his dog's name.
Ohtani had refused to reveal the puppy's name after the dog appeared next to him as he accepted his 2023 American League MVP award last month, sparking speculation that it was also the name of one of the clubs Ohtani was considered as a free agent.
So his dog was called Dodger after all?
â Walker Buehler (@buehlersdayoff) December 9, 2023
We had our fun, but the most charming subplot of the offseason reached its conclusion when the Dodgers' new $700 million man revealed that his dog's name is Dekopin, which means to flick someone's forehead in Japanese.
But you can call him a decoy.
âI thought it would be difficult for Americans to pronounce,â Ohtani said through his translator Ippei Mizuhara.
There's no word yet on what kind of contract Decoy can expect on the free agent market â but there's still only one Dodger in the Ohtani household, at least for now.
