Shooting in a taxi in Montreal –

A man was shot in a taxi in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension district of Montreal on the night of Friday to Saturday.

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) received calls around midnight Saturday regarding a person injured by gunfire in the Parc-Extension neighborhood on Saint-Roch Street at Querbes Avenue.

The victim, a man whose identity cannot be confirmed at this time, was found in a taxi. The man was hit in the upper body by at least one bullet. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to initial information from Montreal police, one or more suspects shot the man in the vehicle and then fled before police arrived.

So far, no suspect has been arrested, reported SPVM spokeswoman Caroline Chèvrefils.

The taxi driver was not hit by the bullets, but suffered a nervous shock that had to be treated on site.

Avenue Querbes was closed between Rue Jarry and Avenue Jean-Talon and a security perimeter was set up around the crime scene to allow forensic identification technicians and investigators from the Major Crimes Unit to do their work.

This would be the “third murder on SPVM territory in 2024,” the SPVM spokesman said.
