On November 24th, the repair shop will tackle waste and overconsumption by offering citizens the opportunity to have their everyday items diagnosed and repaired for free: toaster, lamp, trousers, coffee maker, small loose furniture and more.
For this sixth edition, new items can be repaired, including bicycles, computers and phones. A repair avoids waste, but also costs that we cannot always afford.
“This event is a great example of solidarity, exchange and discovery. This year, thanks to the presence of Econext Informatique, you will even have the opportunity to learn more about maintaining your computers and phones, and for those still waiting, you can learn more about climate change thanks to the Fresque quiz,” emphasizes Auriane Schiewe , circular economy consultant and responsible for the event.
“We hope to offer as many people as possible the opportunity to reduce their expenses while having a positive impact on the environment. On the environmental level, we reduce landfill, while on the social level we fight against insecurity by avoiding buying new things and then create new connections by coming into contact with strangers who want to help us, adds Lauréanne Daneau, general director from Environnement, added Mauricie.
In the past, more than 320 items have been repaired by more than 80 different volunteers.
The Repair Shop takes place at the Maison de la solidarité (1060, rue Saint-François-Xavier, door 4).
For those unable to attend, Environnement Mauricie reminds that its team has created a Repair Shop Directory, a digital tool available at www.environnementmauricie.com that lists the contact details of repair shops across the region.
