The new year is just around the corner. And as the world prepares to ring in 2024, many are putting the holidays behind them and returning to their normal routines — give or take new resolutions.

If you're planning on grocery shopping or doing other shopping to start the New Year, it's a good idea to double-check store hours. While more stores typically stay open on New Year's Day than on Christmas Day, some chains are still shortening their hours or closing their doors to commemorate the holiday. Some also close their shops earlier on New Year's Eve.

Operations may vary depending on location. If in doubt, call ahead or find out online the opening times of the stores in your area.

Here's an overview of key store hours and which stores in the US will be open and closed this New Year's Day.

Walmart will be open during normal hours on New Year's Day.

Target will be open regular hours on New Year's Day.

All Costco warehouses in the US will be closed on New Year's Day.
