And Catriona Rowntree is now aiming to conquer the skies of Victoria.

The 51-year-old Getaway hostess earned her pilot’s license after taking flight lessons, the Herald Sun reports.

She spoke about her performance in an Instagram post on Thursday, revealing that she had previously tried and failed to achieve her goal.

“I got on a plane [this morning] and could hear people talking about me while reading this article,” the travel writer wrote.

“I hope it inspires at least one other woman, regardless of age, to learn to fly, and indeed anyone tackling a goal they may have,” she added.

She admitted it was a “lovely feeling” to be taking part in her flying classes this week and felt encouraged to be among other students aged between 14 and 80.

Catriona was given the task of piloting a TL Ultralight Sting during her course.

Catriona has no plans to buy her own aircraft just yet, but is looking forward to earning her flying lessons and being a part of the aviation community.

“I had to do the course intensively because I’m married to a farmer, so I did it in a couple of weeks,” she said.

Luckily she had a supportive network including her husband James Pettit which made the experience all the more rewarding.

The veteran reporter is best known for hosting Channel Nine’s travel show Getaway, a role she began in 1996.
