Residents of Montreal’s Griffintown neighborhood were awakened early Saturday morning by shots fired.
According to initial information from the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), people fired one or more firearms at around 4:20 a.m. Saturday at the Moretti Pizzeria at the intersection of Peel and Wellington streets. The suspects then fled on foot.
“There were no injuries in this incident,” said SPVM spokeswoman Véronique Dubuc. “No suspects have been identified at this time,” she added.
The window of Pizzeria Moretti, which made headlines for refusing to close its doors during the pandemic, was smashed and several bullet casings were found on the premises.

A security perimeter has been established on Wellington Street, between Henri-Bourassa Boulevard and Peel Street, to allow forensic identification technicians and SPVM investigators to conduct their investigations.
However, traffic is unlikely to be affected by police operations during the day on Sunday.
