Show it off at your party! in the Capitol: Do you know Guylaine Tanguay, the rocker?

We’ll never confuse Guylaine Tanguay with Lita Ford or Courtney Love, but there’s still a rocker in the country singer from Lac-Saint-Jean, and she decided to use her participation in the Théâtre Capitole Christmas show in Quebec to wake up you up.

Flanked by Annie Villeneuve, Rémi Chassé and Jean Ravel, she will cover hits from Joan Jett, Heart and even AC/DC throughout December.

Guylaine Tanguay singing “Thunderstruck” or “Back In Black” is what we call a fascinating counterattack.

“There’s a rock side in me that I really like to bring out from time to time,” the singer admits over the phone after noticing the journalist’s surprise at her choice of song.

“I did it a bit on my show last summer and the reaction was very strong. I’m not the only one who remembers these songs and considers himself a rocker,” continues Guylaine Tanguay, recalling the enthusiasm of the audience during the concerts.

Both feet on the floor and go

Seeing herself as a rocker is nothing new in Guylaine Tanguay’s life as an artist.

She says that in her youth, when she worked in the bar in her town in Normandy, she would sometimes go on stage and not play covers of Fernand Gignac’s hits.

“Bands came from the city to play there. While I was working, I was allowed to take breaks to sing with them, and that’s the kind of repertoire I did. From the heart, from the same matters.”

“I really stumbled,” she said. I’ve always liked that kind of song where we put both feet on the ground and go for it, that’s how we go. I had the voice to do it.”

Music that makes you stumble

Directed by Réal Béland and conceived with the sole aim of making viewers want to party, the show À votre party! therefore brings together hits from the 1970s to today, whether rock, country or pop.

Guylaine Tanguay is keen to point out that there will be references to the holiday season and traditional tunes, but the repertoire has largely been selected from the Top 40 charts of the past few decades. “Everything that made us tick,” says Guylaine Tanguay, citing Adele, Bryan Adams, Tina Turner and Justin Bieber.

“There’s all sorts of things, I’m telling you, it’s really wide.”

No deals were ever made

During our conversation, Guylaine Tanguay also confirmed that she will be releasing an album of original songs early next summer.

“For me it’s something completely different, I’ve never done it before; 2024 will be a big year. My summer will be different; Throughout July we will be in Sainte-Adèle and throughout August in Saint-Prime to present an intimate show in acoustic format. It will prepare us for the big tour that comes next.”

“I want to experience that now,” explains the 51-year-old artist. At my age you want to try things you’ve never done before.

  • There will be 15 performances of the show from November 30th to December 31st At your party! at the Théâtre Capitole in Quebec.
