“The mayor has to be absent today (Tuesday) due to his health condition. He is negative for COVID-19 tests but prefers not to take any chances,” Thomas Gaudreault, the mayor’s press secretary, told the Journal Tuesday morning.

According to him, “as of today (Tuesday), this does not jeopardize the deadlines for the adoption of the budget. The Vice-Presidents of the Executive Committee study the budget in plenary”.

While plenary committees are scheduled to continue today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday), we still don’t know when the exact timing of the vote on the City of Quebec’s 2023 budget will take place. Traditionally, this vote usually takes place on the day after the last general assembly as part of an extraordinary municipal council.

The negotiation game to pass the budget started last week. Mayor Marchand’s team needs the support of at least two opposition councilors or independents to see it through.
