Sick people from southern Dominican Republic join strike for demands

In this way, the staff of this medical center joined the work stoppage ordered by the National Health Coordinator (Conasalud) from this Tuesday to next Sunday, as published by Al Momento.

Speaking on behalf of the union, the President of the San Cristóbal School of Nursing, Luz Placencio, called on the government to stick to agreements made several years ago, which include hospital equipment, materials and supplies, in order to be able to offer better quality services.

He recalled that nurses have been called heroines during the Covid-19 pandemic, but their claims go unheeded and they work for low wages.

Placencio said the work stoppage includes the suspension of consultations, but the emergency and neonatology service will be maintained because they are areas with sensitive patients.

The strike in the southern region of the country ended at 6:00 p.m. local time, and the call to halt services in San Francisco de Macorís, Sánchez Ramírez, María Trinidad Sánchez, Samaná and Villa Altagracia remains in place for tomorrow.

The day before, Conasalud announced work stoppages in several hospitals because the authorities had remained silent on old claims.

The President of the Association of Psychologists and spokeswoman for the plaintiffs, María de los Santos, indicated that the disruptions will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, in the Northeast; Thursday in the North; Friday in the Northwest; takes place on Saturday in the East and ends on May 30 in Greater Santo Domingo and the National District.

The coordinator specified that their entitlements include, among other things, the delivery of medicines and consumables; the 100 percent pension based on the last salary; a pay rise for active staff and the reinstatement of fired union members.
