Signals of a new Ukrainian counter offensive in the east, according to Ukrainian soldiers

A Ukrainian special forces officer said the army was about to take control of the Svatové-Kreminna highway to cut off Russian supplies.

On the Eastern Front, the beginning of a Ukrainian counter-offensive is taking shape, which has stalled since the liberation of the Kharkiv-Izioum-Lyman axis in early October, soldiers operating in that sector told AFP on Tuesday, confirming statements by Ukrainian authorities.

“The trend is good, in fact, on our side the front line (this week) has progressed quickly and well,” confirmed an officer of the Ukrainian army’s special forces from a position in the village of Zarichne, in the name of the code “Iva”, on this one front in action. “We are concentrating on the Svatové-Kreminna road with the aim of cutting the Russian supply line,” in the direction of occupied Lysychansk, the soldier continues on condition of anonymity. The town of Svatové, occupied by Moscow since March 6, is one of the main logistical hubs of the Russian army in this occupied part of the Lugansk region.

Ukrainian forces are advancing from the south, particularly on the axis parallel to the Svatové-Kreminna highway and the road passing through Nevske. “In the Nevske direction, our army is making good progress, in the Kreminna direction it is more complicated because of the daily shelling. At the moment in this sector it is always the (Ukrainian) territorial defense, which is great for holding positions, but not calibrated for the offensive,” the officer continued. “We will not talk about specific places and we will let the General Staff do that, but we can say that the Svatové-Kreminna highway is practically under the control of the Ukrainian armed forces,” said the region’s governor Serguiï on national television on Friday Gaïdaï.
