Marie-Claude Barrette wasted no time reinventing herself after leaving TVA. A few weeks ago she started the podcast Open your game with Marie-Claude Barrettean original concept that allows him to have a deep and intimate conversation with a guest personality.

During a trip to the sun, Marie-Claude Barrette came up with the idea for her podcast. “I was down south and someone had some kind of deck of cards. It was enough to select one question. This resulted in an extraordinary evening full of emotions, in which we felt connected.
Upon her return, the presenter immediately envisioned her game, which serves as the basis for her conversation with a guest for her podcast. It contains about twenty cards that vary in color depending on the level of intimacy, and each has a question on it. The guest has only one joker, which allows him to skip the question.
“My purpose in life is to unite people and generations. What happened to me at TVA made me understand that we want to be inclusive, except when we talk about age. The ratings mean that we exclude people completely, we don’t even count them anymore. The over 54-year-olds no longer exist for decision-makers, they are no longer sold. But a model is changing.” She casually admits that several advertisers have already told her that the target audience is now 35-64 year olds and no longer the 25-54 year olds, which advertisers care about. “At the same time, broadcasters are putting so much effort into the internet to appeal to young people! They all now have convergences with digitization.”
However, Marie-Claude Barrette admits that she never developed a program specifically targeting humans. “I do my shows for everyone, men and women, regardless of race, age or anything like that. I’ve been told many times that there are many people who have learned French by watching my show on TVA.

LOT OF FREEDOM
With her podcast, the presenter has the impression of having greater freedom. “First, time is not an issue. We recently spent two hours with Debbie Lynch-White; it was very interesting. The picture is also not important, even if the podcast is filmed. The most important thing is what we say.” She also likes the possibility of conducting an interview without a network. “Because of the game, we don’t know what’s going to happen or in what order the cards – that is, the questions – are going to come out. We write the game according to the person we will receive, but she chooses three questions and you never know what will matter.
Unlike her TV show, Marie-Claude Barrette has only one guest, which allows her to be more involved. “I let emotions overwhelm me a lot more. I’m really with the person, I remind him, I even allow myself to make a few comments. I’m directly involved, especially since the guest can ask me a question, which I try to answer as honestly as possible.
WITH FAMILY
Marie-Claude Barrette can count on significant support in the preparation of her podcast: her daughter Juliette. “She’s been telling me for at least two years that the future is in podcasting and that I need to make a game. It seems to me that she made a prediction without knowing it. Now she’s with me on the recording and helps me a lot. That’s interesting because she’s one of the young people who left television for the world of podcasting. It’s really fun to have him with us.
The presenter also thinks about the future and all the options available to her. “It’s a good concept, but it’s still in its infancy. I want it to be a tabletop game that anyone can play. We’re working on that. I find what I’m going through very exhilarating and I’m finding happiness in this project.”
the podcast Open your game with Marie-Claude Barrette is available on all digital platforms.
