The estate of Sinéad O'Connor, who died last year at age 56, formally called on Donald Trump on Monday to stop playing her music at election rallies, saying the singer viewed the former US president as “biblical Devil”.
The Trump team performed the Irish singer's biggest hit, Nothing Compares 2 U, at partisan events as part of his campaign for the Republican nomination for the next US presidential election, for which he has just been declared eligible by the Supreme Court (New Window) .
In a joint statement, Sinéad O'Connor's estate and her record label Chrysalis called on Donald Trump to immediately stop using her music.
The Irish singer lived by a very strict moral code characterized by honesty, kindness, fairness and decency towards others, the press release says. It was with great outrage that we learned that Donald Trump used his iconic performance “Nothing Compares 2 U” at his political rallies.
It is no exaggeration to say that Sinéad would have been disgusted, hurt and insulted if she had seen her work distorted in this way by someone she herself described as a “biblical devil,” we add.

The critical voice of Sinéad O'Connor
Fiery and outspoken, Sinéad O'Connor criticized the Catholic Church long before sexual assault allegations became widely known, and she spoke openly about her mental health struggles.
She was found unconscious in her London home last July. His death was announced immediately. The coroner concluded that she died of natural causes.
Sinéad O'Connor's estate joins a growing list of artists who have refused to allow Donald Trump to use their songs, including Rihanna, Neil Young, Linkin Park, the late Tom Petty and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler.
