Sinéad O'Connor's estate denies Trump use of her song “Nothing Compares 2 U”

Donald Trump is stepping up his election rallies with the aim of winning the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election in the United States. To cheer up the audience, his team plays songs by artists who don't want to be associated with him.

The list goes on. This time it was the estate of Sinéad O'Connor that denounced the former president's team's use of the play Nothing Compares 2 U at rallies in Maryland and North Carolina, Variety reported.

Sinéad O'Connor's estate and record label Chrysalis Records are demanding that Trump immediately stop playing Nothing Compares 2 U, according to US magazine, which has received a statement from both parties.

“It is well known that throughout her life, Sinéad O'Connor lived by a strict moral code characterized by honesty, kindness, fairness and decency towards those around her. “That's why we were outraged to learn that Donald Trump has used his iconic rendition of 'Nothing Compares 2 U' at his political rallies,” the powerful statement said.

“It is no exaggeration to say that Sinéad would have been disgusted, hurt and insulted if someone she described as a “biblical devil” had misrepresented her work in this way. As stewards of his legacy, we demand that Donald Trump and his associates immediately stop using his music.”

Sinéad O'Connor died on July 26th at the age of 56. Last January, Southwark Coroner's Court found she had died of natural causes.

A very long list of artists saying no to Trump

In addition to O'Connor's estate, several other artists have spoken out against the Trump team's use of their material. This was the case last January with Johnny Marr of the Smiths, but before him there was also Adele, Aerosmith, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Guns N' Roses, Leonard Cohen, Linkin Park, Neil Young, Nickelback, Ozzy Osbourne, panic! At The Disco, Pharrell Williams, Phil Collins, Prince, Queen, REM, Rihanna, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Village People and The White Stripes.
