Singer and actress Olivia Newton John dies

Olivia Newton-John, who rose to international fame as both a singer and actress in films such as Grease and Xanadu, died Monday morning. He was 73 years old.

Her husband, John Easterling, informed fans of the artist’s death.

“For more than 30 years, Olivia has been a symbol of triumph and hope in sharing her experience with breast cancer,” said Easterling, who asked that donations “instead of flowers” be sent to those interested to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation, the dedicated to research into plant medicine and cancer.

According to TMZ, her press team confirmed that the “Physical” hitmaker died “peacefully” at her ranch in Southern California, surrounded by family and friends.

It was well known that Newton-John had been battling breast cancer for more than 30 years, but their spokespeople have yet to confirm the cause of death.

Although the acclaimed artist began her career in the early ’70s with songs like “If Not for You,” “Let Me Be There,” and “Have You Never Been Mellow,” the singer was recognized for her iconic role as “Sandy” in the musical “Grease,” where songs like “You’re the One that I Want,” “Summer Nights,” and “Hopeless Devoted to You” immortalized her in American popular culture.

After the triumph of the film, in which she starred with actor John Travolta, the artist continued her acting career with another musical, “Xanadu”.

Meanwhile, Newton-John’s biggest hit as a singer was 1981’s “Physical,” which stayed at No. 1 in the US for 10 weeks and established itself as one of the most memorable songs of that decade.
