An arrest warrant was issued for his arrest on November 23 after he failed to appear in court in connection with a case in which he was accused of drugging two people without their knowledge.
Since then, investigators have taken several steps to find Mr. Munteanu, the SPVM told Noovo Info.
On Wednesday evening, a citizen called 911 and reported that the person police were looking for was in an apartment in Laval. Authorities arrived and arrested him around 7:15 p.m.
“The person was cooperative,” the SPVM spokesperson told Noovo Info. Mr. Munteanu was then transported to a detention center.
The defendant appeared at the Montreal courthouse on Thursday afternoon, but the case was postponed until Friday, December 1st. This hearing will make it possible to determine whether or not Mr. Munteanu will be detained for the rest of the proceedings, the Criminal and Prosecution Prosecutor Me Laurence-Fanny L’Estage confirmed to Noovo Info.
The 39-year-old man was arrested on November 11, 2022. He is accused of drugging two people. He is said to have committed the crimes in 2013 and 2016.
On February 14, the opera singer’s case ended up in court again. Mr Munteanu was not present. His lawyer spoke on his behalf. His lawyer had asked to lift a temporary restraining order aimed at protecting the identities of alleged victims and witnesses related to his trial. That request was rejected by a judge last April.
The former Star Académie participant was charged with shoplifting that occurred on January 6, 2018 at a Canadian Tire in Laval. However, the charges were dropped the following year.
