Singer Simon Daniel suffers from environmental anxiety – Acadie Nouvelle

Simon Daniel is the reflection of his generation. Like many other young adults, the Moncton singer is deeply concerned about the environment.

So much so that he doesn’t hesitate to say that he suffers from environmental anxiety.

His new excerpt “Hey Me” captures in words and music what he has been feeling since all these climactic episodes began.

“This is a very important question for people of my generation. Sometimes I literally wake up in the night and it stops me from sleeping. “This is a topic that concerns me,” he admits.

“It seems like it was there, but it was latent in the past. With all the extreme weather events we’ve experienced over the last year, be it wildfires or floods, this has been a big concern for me lately.

He admits that this song is a kind of therapy for him.

“This song has a certain punk energy: it has a lot of rhythm! It feels good to let off some steam and let it all out.”

However, eco-anxiety is not easy to control, mentions Simon Daniel.

“This is a problem that is broader than the individual. I can try as hard as I want, but if we don’t take concrete action together, we won’t move forward,” he explains.

“As individuals, we certainly feel a little helpless. When I wrote this album, we were coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic and that was also a situation where we felt helpless.”

This feeling of helplessness is still present within him, but he points out that he is far from the only one who experiences this fear of the future.

“It feels like we’re in limbo and all we can do is wait. That’s the difficult thing. This is the biggest social problem of my generation.

Simon Daniel will tour in October and November to promote his new album Untitled (for now).

He will be in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia offering showcases to people in the music industry.
