Sir David is struggling with his health after a “serious” battle with Covid in July 2022.
The viral infection left him so frail that he suffered a fall at his home in Ellesborough, Buckinghamshire, telling BBC Breakfast of his fall: “All the muscles didn't work.” I collapsed and fell against the radiator. I was so weak that I couldn't stand up.
“I spent about fifteen minutes trying to get up by any means possible so I could walk around.
“But to do that I had to use my head. So now I'm lying face down on the floor, and to get to the door – and the arms really didn't work and the legs didn't work – I pulled myself to the door with my head.”
Covid is believed to have triggered a condition called myalgia, which causes muscle pain and can affect ligaments, tendons and fascia – the soft tissue that connects muscles, bones and organs.
