Six bodies found on reservation near Canada-US border

Six unidentified bodies were found Thursday night at the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation on the border of Quebec, Ontario and upstate New York.

The Montérégie Indian Reservation Police have also launched an investigation to understand the causes and circumstances surrounding the deaths of these six individuals.

“[Les corps] were found this afternoon during an aerial search assisted by the Canadian Coast Guard,” Akwesasne Mohawk Police said.

After the first body was found in a swampy area, “the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Marine Unit continued to search the area with the support of the Coast Guard and the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department,” Mohawk authorities said.

Authorities, awaiting the results of autopsies and toxicology tests to determine the cause of death, are attempting to identify the victims.
