Six high school-age teens, all girls, are reported to have died after they were involved in a truck accident on a highway in Oklahoma on Tuesday.

The accident occurred at the intersection of US 377 and 22 in Tishomingo, about 120 miles from Oklahoma City, at 12:30 p.m. local time.

A truck and a small car were involved in the crash, according to the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety. Six schoolgirls in the car died.

Tishomingo Public Schools confirmed the loss of the girls on social media, reaching out to parents and the community, saying the district has “suffered a great loss.”

“Our hearts are broken and we mourn with our students and staff,” Superintendent Tishomingo Bobby Weightman said in a letter.

The school will offer counseling to all students affected by losses.

Neither the age of the girls nor the condition of the driver of the semi-trailer was known.
