Slap Shot: The Hanson Brothers on tour in Shawinigan

“Slap Shot” fans had the pleasure of welcoming three of the cult film's stars, including brothers Jack and Jeff Hanson, on tour, who were arrested in Shawinigan on Friday.

It is the second visit to Quebec for the famous ice hockey players of the Charlestown Chiefs, who could also count on the presence of goalkeeper Denis Lemieux. The three men signed autographs and took photos with the many fans who came their way.

“We are excited to see the Chiefs in Shawinigan. “It was a great event for the entire community, especially because it is a great classic in Quebec,” said an amateur whom TVA Nouvelles met.

The film's most ardent supporters came to the occasion well-disguised with the haircut and glasses secured with pieces of tape that we associate well with the Hansons. Although “Slap Shot” hit the big screen back in 1977, it continues to draw crowds.

“It’s an honor to see how people dress up. “In the United States and here in Canada we often see little children dressed like the Hanson brothers and it is an honor,” said one of the two brothers.

“It’s like that all over the world,” added Denis Lemieux. We went to Germany, people know the lines. I even had to learn a line in German.”

The Cataractes, for their part, organized a special “Slap Shot” night for the game against the Drummondville Voltigeurs at the Gervais Auto Center. The Hanson brothers even had to go into the local team players' locker room to give a speech that the young hockey players certainly won't soon forget.

“It is one of the first calls I made in mid-September when I arrived in office,” confided Steve Turcotte, director of hockey management at Cataractes. I first spoke to the QMJHL to find out whether it was right to carry out such an initiative there. After we got the green light, we contacted the Hanson brothers. Everyone was very enthusiastic and really wanted to go on tour.”
