(Slightly) dangerous compound

For his first starring role on television, Vincent Cassel deserves a major project worthy of his talent and stardom. Unfortunately, the series no longer offers that Connectionon AppleTV.

Let’s face it: No, Liaison isn’t a bad TV series. But the presence of Vincent Cassel in the credits (and Eva Green as well) raises expectations by several notches.

Because although we’ve seen the venerable French actor a number of times on the small screen, this is the first time he’s starred there.

So we’re sorry to hear and too cliche to see a sprawling plot very similar to what televors have seen many times before in 24, Homeland, or more recently Jack Ryan.

former lovers

In Liaison, Vincent Cassel and Eva Green embody a duo of secret agents – and former lovers – who are forced to work together on a sensitive case involving espionage, cybersecurity and terrorism.

Your past is complex. Stormy. Even without really closing the chapter, the two lovers seem to have taken different paths a few years ago. Understanding it quickly, we will discover the details scattered throughout the six episodes that will be added to the Apple TV platform weekly.

Luckily, the chemistry between the two actors is palpable, even explosive. Because other than that element, Liaison has little to offer to stand out from the crowd. As effective as its action scenes are and its twists and turns unexpected at times, we have the ugly impression we’ve seen it all elsewhere… and better.

In short, there’s certainly a worse way to spend the six hours you have to devote to the Liaison series. But we can’t help but think that the result would have been much (much!) more effective had the plot been condensed into a hundred-minute film.

series Connection is offered every Friday with a new episode on the Apple TV platform.
