The machine left on Saturday from Maribor, Slovenia, towards the Croatian city of Pula, on the Adriatic. For initially unclear reasons, it crashed into the Mali Makovnik forest on Mount Kapela, about 90 kilometers as the crow flies southwest of the capital Zagreb. Chief Aviation Inspector Danko Petrin suspected that fuel on board may have caught fire during the flight.
