Smash Mouth frontman Steve Harwell in hospice care, rep says – CBS News

Former Smash Mouth singer Steve Harwell is receiving hospice care at home, a representative confirmed to CBS News on Sunday.

The artist, whose band is known for hits like “All Star” and “Walkin’ on the Sun,” is being cared for by his fiancée, according to rep Robert Hayes.

“My only additional comment is that we would hope that people would respect the privacy of Steve and his family during this difficult time,” Hayes told CBS News.

Harwell was previously diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a form of heart disease.

Smash Mouth was founded in 1994. Harwell was with the band until 2021 when he retired. According to Smash Mouth’s website, Zach Goode became the band’s frontman last year. The band is also known for their cover of the Monkee classic “I’m a Believer.”
