The winds change direction

After several days without smoke, a change in wind direction caused it to return to the provinces. The smog is carried by the air masses that begin their descent from north to south.

As we can see on the radars, the smoke will be less dense than last Sunday. However, it will be thick enough to affect air quality.

As of this writing, a poor air quality alert has already been issued for much of the area. The south and west of the province in particular will be under smog warnings all day Thursday. The air will contain high concentrations of fine suspended particles from Abitibi to Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean across the metropolitan area.

The smoke will remain over these areas throughout the day before gradually dissipating on Friday. However, it could last a little longer in the coming days.

Environment Canada reminds that wearing a properly fitting N-95 mask reduces health risks. It is also advisable to limit your outdoor activities as much as possible.
