“SNL”: “Barbie” Fake; Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce make cameo appearances
After a five-month hiatus due to the WGA strike, “Saturday Night Live” returned with a sober opening reflecting on the Israel-Hamas war.
“Saturday Night Live” used its opening skit to poke fun at President Joe Biden’s age in the spirit of Halloween.
Mikey Day portrayed a struggling Biden in the cold while hanging bat decorations in the Oval Office. In a bizarre twist, he was surprised with appearances from “Papa Pumpkin” Christopher Walken and newly minted Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (Michael Longfellow).
Day’s Biden snorted throughout the skit. “I’m not out of breath. “I’m just excited because Halloween is the most wonderful holiday in the world,” he said.
“Here is the end result. The world is a pretty scary place right now. “Wars, shootings, climate change, everything in the new Britney book,” he said as he climbed a rickety ladder. “I want everyone to feel comfortable. “Nothing puts someone at ease like an 80-year-old man putting up Halloween decorations.”

The ageist jokes continued throughout the skit, with Biden recalling that a ladder was “cutting-edge technology” in his youth. “It was like an iPad.”
“I love Halloween. In fact, many of my closest friends are ghosts,” he added, saying he fights the Grim Reaper “every day.”
Walken’s presence was welcome as people prepare for Halloween.
“They call me Papa Pumpkin,” the “Sleepy Hallow” star said, before changing up a classic nursery rhyme: “Trick or treat, smell my feet. / Give me something good to eat. / If you don’t do it, I won’t do it. I do not care. / I’ll pull down your underwear.
Despite the age difference, the 80-year-old actor got the most laughs in the sketch.

Saturday’s show was hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, with Foo Fighters as the musical guest.
