Snoop Dogg quits smoking like it’s hot — or at least that’s what he says.
The rapper and legendary Kush enthusiast claims he’s giving up the bandwagon.
“After much thought and discussion with my family, I have decided to quit smoking,” he wrote on Instagram. “Please respect my privacy at this time.”
The serious statement, coupled with an equally solemn black-and-white photo and signature, left some wondering if the remarks were some kind of joke. He was not immediately available for comment.
Fans were a little taken aback by the statement. “Waiting for the plot twist,” one wrote. “In two days he will say his account was hacked,” said another. “Smoked brisket?” asked another.
Additionally, the statement doesn’t mean Snoop Dogg is giving up cannabis per se, as edibles are obviously a popular option.
The 50-year-old marijuana advocate famously smoked a joint while walking the red carpet at the 2021 MTV Movie Awards and has business ties to various edibles and weed. He once said he smokes 81 joints a day and has a personal blunt roller.
Snoop Dogg said earlier this year that he would quit smoking after becoming a grandfather.
“Being a grandfather has changed me in many ways,” he told the Chron in March. “The most important way is to think about how I live, how I move, what people I associate with, because I want to see my grandchildren grow old. The only way to achieve this is to take precautions in how I move, who I am with, where I go, what I eat and what I eat. Am I doing extracurricular activities or am I just doing what I’m supposed to do?”
Marijuana has long been considered relatively harmless, but recent studies suggest that marijuana use is more harmful than previously thought. Two large longitudinal studies have suggested that marijuana use may impair cognitive abilities to a “substantial and significant degree.”
