Snow Clearing, a Totally Different Outcome in Downtown Quebec City

Many people, like those at the Pee-wee Tournament organization, are happy to see that the job got done quickly this time.

You have to say when things aren’t going well and you have to say when things are going well, to be honest, the city did a very good job this weekend. They have recovered very well compared to last week, emphasizes Patrick Dom, director of the Pee-Wee tournament.

The city of Québec had also promised to adapt. The Vice President of the Executive Committee and responsible for snow removal, Pierre-Luc Lachance, even asked citizens on his social networks on Saturday morning to take the pulse of the population.

The city’s road maintenance officer, Marie-Pierre Raymond, explains that the end of the early afternoon rain helped teams complete much of the work before the end of the day.

“We removed the snow in dense areas. We’ve done most of it, we’ll clean up on Sunday. »

Better flexibility

While last weekend private contractors had to be called to clear the snow, this time SDC representatives are satisfied with the city’s work.

The business development corporations would still wish that the policy is more flexible from now on.

You have to be able to assert yourself against the competition, such as shopping centers, primarily on commercial arteries. You can’t stretch a storm’s damage beyond two or three days, says Bruno Salvail, the general manager of SDC Maguire, who says he senses an openness on the part of the city to review its management of snow removal.

François Blay Martel, Director General of SDC Faubourg-Saint-Jean-Baptiste, agrees. He believes that individual snow removal would be in the interests of the city, merchants, citizens and the SDC. Talking to each other is important and we have found that needs differ across sectors. It is therefore important that there is this dialogue.

The SDCs hope to hold further meetings with the city to maintain good communication.
