A snow weather warning is in place for Montreal, Laval, Estrie, Gatineau, the Richelieu Valley, Saint-Hyacinthe, Vaudreuil-Soulange and Huntington, according to Environment Canada.

Up to 15 centimeters of snow are expected in the metropolitan area. Farther south, towards Gatineau and the US border, it could accumulate as much as 20 centimeters. In Gatineau, Environment Canada is warning that snow is falling at a rate of up to 2 centimeters per hour.

Rainfall is expected to decrease during the day and stop in the evening.

Be careful on the streets

According to the Department of Transportation’s website, morning visibility will be limited on several roads in Quebec, particularly in Estrie, Montérégie and the Laurentians.

Gusts of up to 40 to 50 kilometers per hour can cause snowstorms, warned Environment Canada meteorologist Guillaume Perron on Friday.

Several minor skirmishes and collisions were reported on Quebec roads in the morning, said Béatrice Dorsainville, spokeswoman for the Sûreté du Québec. No serious injuries were reported.

At the end (or beginning) of the school holidays, many flights to or from Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau Airport were canceled or delayed, according to the airport’s website.
