“Football players as well as former players of one of Tehran’s main football clubs were arrested last night (Saturday) during a mixed party in the city of Damavand,” Tasnim news agency reported without providing any further details on the identity of these footballers or their club.

“Some of these players were not in a normal state after consuming alcohol,” the same source added.

According to Iranian law, the consumption and sale of alcohol is prohibited.

Iran is being rocked by protests sparked by the September 16 death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman who died after being arrested by vice squads for violating the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code had.

Since the beginning of this protest movement, several Iranian players have been arrested or alarmed by the authorities for supporting the demonstrations.
