Does the world have more doors or wheels? Social media has exploded with people around the world arguing over a confusing puzzle – but what do you think?
- A Twitter user asked a mind-boggling question that soon took over the internet.
- Disputes soon arose as to what actually represented a door or a wheel.
- Spanning multiple platforms, no one can decide which category will win.
Social media users from all over the world tried to answer an incomprehensible question: are there more doors or wheels in the world?
As in the famous 2015 “is the dress white and gold or blue and black?” A controversy, the issue has sharply divided opinion, with people sworn allegiance to either #teamdoors or #teamwheels.
The debate began when Twitter user Ryan Nixon from New York revealed that he and his friends had discussed the matter privately. Ryan created a poll for his followers to get their opinion.
Posting the poll, he said, “My friends and I are having the STUPIDEST debate… And that’s what I’m here for. Do you think there are more doors or wheels in the world?
Twitter user Ryan Nixon started a discussion about how many doors and wheels there are in the world when he shared his conversation with his friends.
After the phenomenon spread to TikTok, creators fought over their chosen answers.
In his poll, 46.4% of people voted for doors and 53.6% for wheels.
After the debate spread to TikTok, one user did their own calculations and concluded that there are 144.8 billion doors and a total of 67.6 billion wheels.
However, it sparked a heated debate, with one #teamwheels fan claiming that a few wheels can be found in the most unlikely places.
To demonstrate, they showed images of wheeled objects that many may have forgotten to consider, including clocks, bicycles, carts, drawer wheels, prams, skateboards and hospital beds.
Some Twitter users were convinced it could be nothing but wheels as the clear winner.
The plot thickened as people began to wonder what exactly a wheel or a door was, and if any discounts would be made for such objects.
As one Twitter user asked, “What counts as a wheel? Do shafts count? Gears? individual ball bearings inside a bearing?
“Your average car will have 100 wheels, but only about 6-8 doors (depending on how you count them! Glove box and trunk obvi, but what about the hood???).”
Some were much more confident in their beliefs, arguing that the answer must definitely be wheels.
One person said, “Now I’m sitting on a chair that has 5 double wheels (or ten wheels if you’d rather I do the math for you) and exactly ZERO doors.”
Another agreed, saying, “Who votes for doors??? Everything has wheels. I have wheels on a clothes hanger, a cosmetics holder, a trash can. It’s definitely wheels.
Many have shared memes illustrating their belief that the world has more doors than wheels.
Others, however, felt just as strongly about doors, with one Twitter user writing: “Doors. Valves are doors found in nature, and there are countless of them; wheels do not arise in nature, neither plants nor animals have wheels.
Another agreed, saying, “Doors. Almost everything that has wheels has doors, except bicycles. Anyone with something on wheels will live in a house with more doors than wheels. For example, I have 10 wheels (2 cars, 1 bike) but 28 doors.”
While the third thought it was obvious: “From where I sit in my house, I can see about 30 doors. There are no wheels. My car has as many doors as it has wheels. Team door is easy.
