Paolo Sorrentino will executive produce the new Apple TV+ series about Enzo Ferrari, directed by Stefano Sollima and created and written by Oscar nominee Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders).
Inspired by Luca Dal Monte’s best-selling biographical novel, Ferrari Rex, which The New York Times has called the “definitive biography” of the famous character.
The series, currently in pre-production in Rome, will be produced by Lorenzo Mieli and Nicola Giuliano, with Sorrentino as Executive Producer.
Enzo Ferrari: his name has become a pride, a claim and finally a legend. But the road was riddled with tragedy and agony. Between 1956 and 1961, deeply affected by the tragic death of his eldest son Dino and by what he saw as a real betrayal by his star driver Juan Manuel Fangio, Enzo Ferrari rebuilt the team from the ground up, choosing five rising motor stars from races, to strive for victory.
“I’m thrilled to be able to tell such a compelling story about this legendary man and his iconic brand,” said creator Steven Knight. “Enzo Ferrari’s extraordinary life has been chronicled by his professional career and personal drama, and ‘Ferrari’ is a celebration of an incredibly complex and fascinating human being.” Example of Italian excellence,” said Stefano Sollima. “Through the relationship he had with the Ferrari Spring Team, the five drivers that Enzo ‘welcomed’ to his team after the loss of his eldest son, we will discover his unique qualities, his great talent and the dark obsession he has towards this man has made into legend.
Ferrari is directed by Stefano Sollima (Suburra) and produced by Lorenzo Mieli for The Apartment Pictures, a Fremantle Group company, in co-production with Nicola Giuliano for Indigo Film and Fremantle.
