After the undeniable success of Sonic 2 The Movie (2022), the Paramount Pictures revealed the release date of the Speedster Hedgehog’s third film: December 20, 2024. The news is accompanied by the postponement of the Smurfs animated musical, which was previously scheduled to hit screens on the date now occupied by Sonic, and that will now debut on February 14, 2025.
This puts the hedgehog film on a collision course with Avatar 3 JamesCameronwhich has the same release date.
Directed by Jeff Fowler, Sonic 2 introduces Knuckles and Tails to the cinematic universe. Recently, the franchise even secured a new movie and spinoff series.
