Sony is causing PlayStation Plus prices to skyrocket – Tech & Co

The company has decided to significantly increase the prices of PlayStation Plus annual subscriptions. According to Sony, this is a way to continue to “offer high-quality games.”

Video game enthusiasts and especially PS4 and PS5 users need to get their wallets ready. Sony has just announced an increase in subscription prices for PlayStation Plus, its subscription service to benefit from free games, starting September 6th.

For the time being, only customers who have taken out an annual subscription are affected by this significant price increase, which applies to the three types of offers of the company.

More than 30 euros increase

In detail, the PlayStation Plus Essential offer – the basic package – drops from 59.99 euros to 71.99 euros per year. Or another 20%. The price for the extra offer in the middle class increases from 99.99 euros to 125.99 euros (+ 26%). Finally, the Premium offer, which will allow you to enjoy all the benefits, will increase from 119.99 euros to 151.99 euros. Or even inflation of 26%.

“This price adjustment will allow us to continue to offer high-quality games and value-added benefits with your PlayStation Plus subscription service,” Sony said in its press release.

The company states that the new pricing for this annual subscription will not apply until the plan’s next renewal date, November 6th, for those who are already subscribers.

“However, any subscription changes you make after September 6th, such as upgrading, downgrading, or purchasing additional time, will update your plan to reflect the new pricing,” Sony said.

Note that monthly or quarterly subscriptions are not currently affected by this price increase. In any case, subscribers to the annual PlayStation Plus subscription will be informed of this increase by email.

At the end of May 2023, Sony reported 47 million PlayStation Plus subscribers, including more than 14 million with higher than basic offers.
