Sophie Habboo reveals a VERY awkward message sent by fiancé Jamie Laing’s family member

Sophie Habboo has revealed she was in tears after fiancé Jamie Laing’s family member sent a rude message about her.

On the couple’s podcast, NearlyWeds, the 28-year-old MIC beauty opened up about how unidentified family member texted Penny, mother of 33-year-old Jamie, with a jibe – with an unsuspecting Penny reading the text during the couple’s first meeting.

Sophie said: “Your sister-in-law’s sister texted Penny and said: ‘I’m so happy Jamie hit it off with Strictly – let’s hope he finds a good partner and can take his mind off this horrible Haribo girl. “

A cackling Jamie added: “And she read the whole thing, she hadn’t read it properly before, and then she said ‘oh’.

“My sister’s face was blank and happy and Sophie went to the bathroom and cried!”

Earlier this year, Jamie revealed that people “can’t understand” how he managed to get his fiancée Sophie as she’s “better than him in every way”.

The star admitted it during a conversation about Lorraine, where he also opened up about how “nerve-wracking” it is to propose to the influencer.

The couple got engaged last year after a three-year romance but recently admitted they won’t be showing the wedding on MIC because Jamie believes relationships have a better chance of surviving away from the cameras.

He told Lorraine of their relationship: “She’s better than me in every way, people look at me on the street and wonder how I did it.”

The couple recently started a new podcast called NearlyWeds, in which they discuss their plans for the wedding, which will be held abroad next spring.

He said: “Marriage is so intense and this is a fun way to document it. We have arguments on the podcast and it’s authentic.’

Jamie then said of the proposal: “It was the most nerve-wracking thing in the world. I have this hotel with candles everywhere and I wrote letters and I came to the door and she read the letters because I was afraid I would say the wrong thing. But she said yes.’

Sophie then chimed in: “I knocked over the candles and then started crying but it was such a happy day.”

He then revealed some details of their wedding, with Jamie saying: “We have a bespoke perfume for the day. I come in for the first dance with a zip line and then do a solo cha cha and wear a white suit.

“We want to do it abroad. It will happen by this time next year.’

Elsewhere in the interview, they referenced their exclusive chat with MailOnline when saying they would not be filming the wedding.

The couple have turned down offers to film their wedding for a Made In Chelsea special – after the Strictly star left the E4 series to salvage their romance.

In their first interview together, the engaged couple reveal that they decided against turning their wedding into a reality spinoff show because Jamie believes off-camera relationships have a better chance of surviving.

The Candy Kittens owner told MailOnline reality TV is “tough on the soul” and after realizing he wanted to marry former co-star Sophie, he knew his Made In Chelsea departure was inevitable.

Jamie revealed: “We’ve been asked to do a TV show, but it’s difficult.

“I’ve been doing reality for so long and it’s hard on the soul. I don’t think television ever works on your own terms, so it’s quite difficult when you’re not in control of these things.

“It’s one of those things that you have to decide whether or not you want to go down the reality TV path again.

‘When does it end?’: The couple have decided against turning their wedding into a spin-off show because Jamie believes off-camera relationships have a better chance of surviving

“What happens when you get married? Let’s do another show about getting married… when does it end? Right now I’m parking reality.’

In agreement with her husband-to-be, Sophie added: “It’s a day for us and our family and friends.”

Jamie, who asked Sophie to marry him in handwritten letters at London’s luxury Rosewood hotel in December, vowed he was “done” with reality TV because he wanted to protect his future marriage.

He added: “I left Made In Chelsea because I didn’t want my relationship with Sophie on camera. There were many other reasons, but this was the big one.

“I’ve seen so many relationships fail on reality TV shows, and I didn’t want that to happen.

“Relationships on TV shows are difficult because there is a constant need for content. Relationships can be mundane and you feel the need to make things interesting, so everything gets overdone and that’s hard.”

Now the Chelsea couple, who launched their new podcast NearlyWeds this week, are busy planning their wedding but have yet to set a date or book a venue after struggling with the Covid-19 backlog.

The big day is expertly arranged as Jamie and Sophie work with a wedding planner and already have a guest list of 220 including Jamie’s former co-stars and childhood friends Caggie Dunlop, Hugo Taylor, Spencer Matthews and his strict pal Giovanni Pernice.
