Schefter tells McAfee that McCaffrey will play against the Vikings

Adam Schefter meets with Pat McAfee to discuss Christian McCaffrey’s availability against the Vikings.

San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey will play Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings, sources tell ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

McCaffrey is listed as questionable for the game after suffering an oblique injury in last Sunday’s loss to the Cleveland Browns. The two-time Pro Bowl player returned to practice on Saturday as a limited participant after missing the previous two practices and said afterward that he felt “great.”

McCaffrey had a team of people working on his injury virtually around the clock all week, sources told Schefter. However, he hasn’t taken a hit in practice all week, so no one knows how he’ll feel or react if he’s attacked, even if he’s going to play.

McCaffrey is aiming to extend his streak of consecutive games (including playoffs) with a touchdown to 16. This would be the second-longest streak in NFL history, trailing only former Baltimore Colts running back Lenny Moore, whose touchdown streak reached 17 between 1963 and ’64 seasons.

McCaffrey has not missed a game since the 49ers acquired him from the Carolina Panthers on October 20, 2022.

The 49ers will be without wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who has a hairline fracture in his shoulder that he suffered against the Browns. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Saturday that Samuel will miss at least the next two weeks before San Francisco’s bye in Week 9.

According to Schefter, San Francisco will also be without left tackle Trent Williams. Williams is listed as questionable due to a right ankle sprain that he also suffered against Cleveland.
