A man says a South Carolina hotel refused to give him a refund after finding his room was covered in mold and dirt.

Brooks Strickland, who has more than 200,000 followers on TikTok, posted a video of his room at the Ocean Star Hotel in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Monday. The video has now more than 300,000 views. He says in the video that he went to the beach with his family and booked the hotel at the last minute.

“I’m not recommending anyone to stay at this hotel and it really needs to be closed until these issues can be fixed,” Strickland says in the video.

In the video, Strickland shows mold on the bed skirts and comforters, water droplets hanging from the ceiling, a stained couch, and a toilet that he says is “pissed all over”.

Strickland said in the video’s caption that the hotel refused to give him a refund even though he was only in the room for about ten minutes.

Strickland said the hotel’s owner texted him, asking him to remove the video and offering him a full refund, but only gave him 15 minutes to make up his mind, whereas, according to a local NBC affiliate, he decided not to.

“It just looks like it’s been going on for so long that they can just cash it out, you know?” Strickland said. “If I said yes, how many other people did that?”

The Ocean Star Hotel declined to comment when it reached Insider on Saturday.
