(ANSA) — MADRID, 05 NOV — Spanish police announced today that they have seized 32 tonnes of cannabis buds in an operation that led to the arrest of 20 people: what they say is the “largest seizure of this substance in the world.” the country’s authorities.
The operation, dubbed “Jardines,” took place in several Spanish cities in recent weeks, including Toledo and Valencia, where suspected traffickers stocked most of their goods, the Civil Guard said.
In a statement, police said the operation “ended with the seizure of 32 tons of marijuana buds,” equivalent to the production of “1.1 million” cannabis plants, “the largest seizure of it. essentially, not just in Spain, but also internationally”.
The cannabis plants, the Guardia Civil explained, were vacuum-packed to be shipped to different regions of Spain and other European countries, “mainly Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium”. A total of 20 people between the ages of 20 and 59 – nine men and eleven women – were arrested. The organization to which they belonged “controlled the entire process of drug production and distribution,” the Guardia Civil said. (HAND).
