A man has been arrested after stabbing several people at a church in southern Spain.
A sexton was killed and a priest injured in a knife attack at a church in Algeciras, southern Spain, on Tuesday, a police source told AFP, adding that a man had been stopped.
This “stabbing attack” happened “just before 8 p.m.” in the Church of San Isidro in Algeciras, in the province of Cádiz, according to the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, and not as previously erroneously stated in that of San Lorenzo.
One person was killed outside the church and one injured inside the church, the ministry added.
A police source told AFP that the person killed was a sacristan, while one of the injured was a priest.
According to this source, the attacker was wearing a djellaba and was “yelling something” at the time of the attack.
Local media, based on testimonies, indicate that the attacker was armed with a machete, which he used to kill the sexton.
“The facts are being analyzed and are the subject of an investigation. It is currently not possible to determine the nature of the attack,” said the Interior Ministry.
