Spain: Baby found headless on beach in Catalonia was 6 month old girl

An investigation was launched two days after a headless baby was discovered on a beach in Catalonia, Spain, and a forensic examination of the body was carried out. The victim was a 6-month-old girl.

On Tuesday July 11, the headless body of a baby was found on the beach of Spain’s Costa Daurada in Roda de Berà, Tarragona, Catalonia. After this macabre discovery, the police launched an investigation. But while the first hypothesis was that the victim was between 2 and 3 years old, a forensic study determined the exact age and sex of the baby.

According to the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, the victim is actually a little girl aged just six months.

The body was “in an advanced state of decomposition” when it was found by a member of the cleaning brigade around 8:30 a.m.

As part of this investigation, several samples of the remains were sent to the Spanish Civil Guard’s “Criminological” service to conduct a scientific study that would provide more information on the exact causes of death.

For now, the preferred hypothesis is that of a migrant drowned in the Mediterranean Sea, her body swept away by the tides while she was on board a boat bound to reach European shores.

When the body was found, the little girl was wearing a onesie and a jacket. “It’s not the typical clothing of a child who goes to the beach,” said the mayor of the city of Roda de Berà (Tarragona), Pere Virgili.
