One of the lines of investigation being pursued by the authorities in relation to the machete attack in Spain is that of a possible terrorist attack. This was reported by judicial circles to the news agencies Efe and Europa Press. Sources in Spain’s Interior Ministry have said more than one was injured, although the number was not given. The newspapers El País and El Mundo report a total of four injured.
The man armed with a machete, who was the protagonist of several attacks in Algeciras (Spain), entered both the church of San Isidro, whose parish priest was injured, and that of Nuestra Señora de La Palma: the deceased person was the sacristan of this second church . This was announced by sources from the Interior Ministry.
Raúl Ocaña, a witness interviewed by Cadena Ser Radio, said that before the attack, the attacker had first visited the Church of San Isidro. “He was already here around 6:30 p.m., he was throwing insults and the woman who takes care of the chapel asked him to leave,” said Ocaña, leader of a local religious community. “Then he came back after we started mass with a machete and attacked the priest,” he added. Ocaña added that he neither knows nor has seen the attacker to date
