Felipe Juan Froilan de Marichalar y Borbon, nephew of King Felipe VI of Spain, has been implicated by police over his alleged involvement in a massive brawl at a Madrid nightclub, in which some of those involved carried knives, it has been reported.
Froilán, 24, is being investigated by the national police for possible beatings, according to El Confidencial, the Spanish online daily.
He is the grandson of Juan Carlos I, who reigned from 1975 to 2014, and is fourth in line to the Spanish throne.
Froilán could face three months to a year in prison if convicted, although in Spain sentences of less than two years are usually suspended for first offenses.
Police were called to the Vandido nightclub on Goya Street in Madrid in the early hours of November 25 to receive reports of a group of around 30 people fighting.

On the ground, officers discovered bloodstains and part of a car’s wing mirror. The brawl apparently started after the vehicle was damaged.
A friend of the king’s arm was cut by a knife in the incident.
The 24-year-old has been the subject of scandals over the years.
In July, he left opium nightclub Marbella after a shooting that left several clubbers injured. There is no indication of any wrongdoing by Froilán for this incident.

In April, he was reportedly punched in the face after queuing for a nightclub toilet in the Spanish capital.
After exchanging words with the man waiting to use the facilities, Froilán reportedly warned him that he “didn’t know who he was talking to” before being hit.
The palace declined to press charges against the attacker.
In 2012, Froilán accidentally shot himself in the foot while on a farm owned by his father’s family.
It commemorates an incident in 1956 when Juan Carlos accidentally fatally shot his younger brother Alfonso with a revolver.

Also in April, Froilán and his sister Victoria Federica, 22, were reportedly involved in a traffic accident in the Salamanca district of Madrid in the early hours of the morning.
According to El Confidencial, the car crashed into several vehicles parked on the street.
Froilán’s sister was driving while he was in the passenger seat. Both have been identified by police, but the incident has been kept secret so far.
Froilán’s controversies are among a series of scandals in the Spanish royal family that his uncle tried to prevent during his eight-year reign.
Juan Carlos I left the country in 2020 when prosecutors were investigating him over alleged financial misconduct.
