SEOUL, Jan 12 (Yonhap) – South Korea’s National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo will travel to Vietnam and Indonesia on Thursday to discuss expanding economic and security cooperation with the two countries, according to Kim’s office.
Kim plans to first visit Hanoi to meet with Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and other senior government officials, as well as his Vietnamese counterpart, to discuss improving bilateral relations between the countries on a range of areas, from finance and construction to defense industry.
In Vietnam, Kim also plans to attend a ceremony to celebrate the completion of construction of the Vietnam-South Korea Institute of Science and Technology and work on promoting South Korea’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo.
On Wednesday, Kim will travel to Jakarta to meet with senior Indonesian parliament officials and discuss the progress of resource development and defense industry cooperation.
Kim also plans to share South Korea’s experience in building the administrative city of Sejong, about 120 kilometers south of Seoul, with Indonesia and talk about expanding South Korean companies’ operations in the Southeast Asian country.
Indonesia plans to move its capital from Jakarta on the island of Java to a new location in East Bormeo province on the neighboring island of Bormeo.
Kim will return home on January 20th.
